If I was ever arrested for Marijuana possession, I would non-violently resist the government's authority over what I put in my body. I would go limp, so the police officers would either have to cary me everywhere or put me in a wheel chair. I would not give my name or sign any paperwork for the booking process. The corporate government probably has ways of dealing with situations like this, but it would give me the satisfaction of not being a slave to the United States of corporate America. Yo politicians, if you want to outlaw substances or drugs, what about the crappy drugs that the pharmaceutical companies put out?

Breaking: Geifner under pressure to resign, Paul or Schiff may take his place

Publically, President Obama and VP Biden have been standing behind
treasury secretary Tim Geifner's performance thus far. However,
Liberty and Accessibility has received a tip from an anonymous source
that the Obama administration has had private discussions with the
secretary about resigning. When asked why the administration would
want Geifner to resign, the source said "It's obvious that Mr. Geifner
knows nothing about economics. Anybody who thinks that just printing
money out of thin air will solve the US economic crisis is a
douchebag." The source says that the administration is considering an
Austrian economist like Ron Paul or Peter Schiff to take Geifner's
place as treasury secretary. The source can be quoted as saying "The
Austrian economists have been predicting a crisis such as this for 30
years." The source says that it is the Obama administration hopes that
Tim Geifner resigns with dignity instead of President Obama having to
be forced to fire him.

The Bush presidency is the largest disappointment in the history of the
modern conservative movement. The Bush presidency was supposed to be
the culmination of all the hard work conservatives had done. In 1994
the "Republican Revolution" in Congress and then the control of the
executive branch by Bush gave this country the possibility of returning
from big government liberal garbage to the sanity of the Constitution.
Well we all know what happened. The "Republican revolution" was nothing
more than an increase in the same old liberal big government garbage.
They sold us out!
I had my feelings about President George W. Bush when he ran for his
first term. I had uneasy feelings about his so called "compassionate
conservatism". It reminded me of his father's slap in the face of the
great Ronald Regan. After Regan served his second term, George Bush
senior said we needed a "kinder and gentler nation". That was a direct
insinuation that somehow Regan was not kind or gentle. It was the
uneasy feelings that I had about President George W. Bush that caused
me not to vote for him. I voted third party instead. When it came time
to choose between Bush and Kerry in the last presidential election, I
voted for Bush (while holding my nose) since I knew there was a good
possibility that the Supreme Court would open a few seats. I hoped that
Bush would appoint good justices and it seems he did. I will give him
credit for that at least.
Here is the problem; one can point to any president and come up with
something that they did that was good (well almost any president). The
real question is did that president move us closer or further away from
the Constitution. Bush has been a disaster concerning the question. He
along with the "Republican Revolution" congress moved us to bigger and
bigger government with higher spending and the huge new prescription
drug entitlement program, and centralizing education. Pork barrel
spending and insane amounts of money spent in foreign aid in countries
with corrupt governments. Bush tried to fight the Iraq war with
political correctness instead of fighting the war as if it is a war.
So many conservatives tried to give him the benefit of the doubt. "He
must have a strategy we don't understand yet." In the end we all see
the truth and those uneasy feelings that caused me not to vote for him
the first time have proved to be right. President Bush has stabbed us
in the back. He has shown his true colors and I do not like what I see.
The final straw that broke the proverbial camel's back was the last
immigration amnesty insanity. What could be worse than allowing another
amnesty program? What could be more insane than opening the borders up
to another 50 million uneducated people over the next ten years who
will drain social services? This land is supposed to be the land of the
free…not the land of the free loaders!!! The insanity of the
Bush/Kennedy collaboration on the amnesty bill only serves as a grave
reminder that we are losing our national identity. Now we have the
latest amnesty bill coming at us under the name "The Dream Act." As I
have written about this previously, it is another insane amnesty
program wrapped up in a cuddly name. Isn't that dreamy?...Give me a break!
Now we get to the absolute, no turning back, worst act of insanity yet.
On October, 10, 2007, The Bush administration went to the Supreme Court
to argue in favor of an illegal alien who committed a double murder. He
raped, tortured, and murdered two 15 year old girls. The Bush
administration is now using its power and our money to argue that this
murderous pig should have a new trial because of a ruling by "the world
court" that stated the police should have contacted the Mexican
consulate and advised them of the trial. The world court? What is this
insane globalist garbage? Who cares what the "world court" has to say?
This is the United States of America! We are 50 states that are unified
under our Constitution. We elect our representatives and our
presidents. I do not care what some globalist in another nation thinks
about anything. This murderous scoundrel has no right to another trial.
He admitted his guilt and even bragged about his sick crime. For
President Bush, who previously stated that our justice system will
never be under a world court, to now send his administration to argue
in favor of submitting to this stupid world court ruling is treason.
Yes you are reading that right TREASON! Any politician that thinks we
Americans should submit to any another authority is a treasonous
criminal. The crime perpetrated by this disgusting criminal is bad
enough, but to add to it by having the President of the United Stated
argue on his behalf makes me want to vomit. Mr. President you have lost
your mind!
Bush is a globalist and his desire along with his buddies in Mexico and
Canada is to have Canada, the U.S.A., and Mexico join as one union like
the European Union. It is called "the security and prosperity
partnership." The agenda is clear; they want globalism to eventually
lead to one currency and one global world government. This is not a
conspiracy theory. This is their goal. We see it in Bush recognizing
the absurd ruling of the world court. What I am about to say may seem
upsetting to some of you but here it goes anyway….TO HELL WITH THE
WORLD COURT!!!!! That is where it belongs. Our veterans did not fight
to put us under foreign rule. They fought to keep us free from it. What
part of that do you socialist, globalists not understand?
President Bush's buddy, former President Fox of Mexico was on the
"O'Reilly Factor" show on Oct, 9, 2007 and spewed out a blame America
for everything diatribe. He blamed America for his country's drug
problem, for his country's inability to stop illegal immigration to
U.S.A. He compared the corruption in Mexico to American corruption and
when pressed on his true world-view the former Mexican President made
it clear that he wants a North American Union similar to the European
Union. He is an enemy of our nation and how dare he come here and
lecture us when most of his people in Mexico make under $4:00 per day
and are subject to the intense corruption of his government. I have
done much mission work in Mexico and I know firsthand that most Mexican
people are dirt poor. How dare he? He dares because our own President,
who swore to defend the Constitution from all enemies both foreign and
domestic, has himself become an enemy of it, along with the majority of
Democrats and Republicans in the House and Senate. The former Mexican
president went on to call us who are against illegal immigration and
amnesty, "xenophobes." The race card was pulled out also by the present
Mexican President Felipe Calderon when he said that the "Minute men"
are racist because they do not want our southern border open to illegal
aliens. So we who love our country, wish to defend it from invasion,
desire to uphold our national independence, and believe that our
veterans fought to keep us free from foreign rule are xenophobes, and
racists? Well Mr. Fox and Mr. Calderon, call us what you will but we
will not be deterred from protecting our beloved land from all enemies
foreign and domestic. We will continue to fight for our rights as
secured by the blood of our fathers who shed it for our freedom and our
right to self government. We know the truth. We simply stand as
Americans together to make known the true desires of our enemies and to
uphold our sacred right to be One Nation under God.

Congressional Control of Health Care is Dangerous for Children

Ron Paul's Texas Straight Talk - A weekly Column
This week Congress is again grasping for more control over the health
of American children with the expansion of the State Children's Health
Insurance Program (SCHIP). Parents who think federally subsidized
health care might be a good idea should be careful what they wish for.
Despite political rhetoric about a War on Drugs, federally-funded
programs result in far more teenage drug use than the most successful
pill pusher on the playground. These pills are given out as a result of
dubious universal mental health screening programs for school children,
supposedly directed toward finding mental disorders or suicidal
tendencies. The use of antipsychotic medication in children has
increased fivefold between 1995 and 2002. More than 2.5 million
children are now taking these medications, and many children are taking
multiple drugs at one time.
With universal mental health screening being implemented in schools,
pharmaceutical companies stand to increase their customer base even
more, and many parents are rightfully concerned. Opponents of one such
program called TeenScreen, claim it wrongly diagnoses children as much
as 84% of the time, often incorrectly labeling them, resulting in the
assigning of medications that can be very damaging. While we are still
awaiting evidence that there are benefits to mental health screening
programs, evidence that these drugs actually cause violent psychotic
episodes is mounting.
Many parents have very valid concerns about the drugs to which a child
labeled as "suicidal" or "depressed," or even ADHD, could be subjected.
Of further concern is the subjectivity of diagnosis of mental health
disorders. The symptoms of ADHD are strikingly similar to indications
that a child is gifted, and bored in an unchallenging classroom. In
fact, these programs, and many of the syndromes they attempt to screen
for, are highly questionable. Parents are wise to question them.
As it stands now, parental consent is required for these screening
programs, but in some cases mere passive consent is legal. Passive
consent is obtained when a parent receives a consent form and fails to
object to the screening. In other words, failure to reply is considered
affirmative consent. In fact, TeenScreen advocates incorporating their
program into the curriculum as a way to by-pass any consent
requirement. These universal, or mandatory, screening programs being
called for by TeenScreen and the New Freedom Commission on Mental
Health should be resisted.
Consent must be express, written, voluntary and informed. Programs that
refuse to give parents this amount of respect, should not receive
federal funding. Moreover, parents should not be pressured into
screening or drugging their children with the threat that not doing so
constitutes child abuse or neglect. My bill, The Parental Consent Act
of 2007 is aimed at stopping federal funding of these programs.
We don't need a village, a bureaucrat, or the pharmaceutical industry
raising our children. That's what parents need to be doing.

IRS Suffers Staggering Defeat
Tax Questions Raised Regarding

Around noon on Monday, September 17th, a Las Vegas federal jury
returned its verdict refusing to convict nine defendants of any of the
161 federal tax crimes they had been charged with. The charges included
income tax evasion, willful failure to file and conspiracy to evade taxes.
The four-month trial centered around the family businesses of Robert
Kahre who paid numerous workers for their labor with circulating gold
and silver U.S. coins, and did not report the wages. The payments took
place over several years, allegedly totaling at least $114 million dollars.
On September 20, 2007, three days after the federal trial's dramatic
conclusion, the Las Vegas Review Journal, reportedly under a degree of
public pressure, ran its first (and last) story about the outcome of
the trial. To this day, with exception of the single article by the
Review Journal, no major media entity has published a news story
regarding the outcome of this important federal criminal tax case.
The censorship of this important news story is, unfortunately, not
unexpected given the continuing, worldwide onslaught against the U.S.
"dollar" -- specifically the Federal Reserve variety, and the ever
growing numbers of Federal Reserve Notes required to trade for an
actual ounce of silver, gold, oil, or for that matter, anything.

The 2008 presidential election may still seem far off, but fundraisers,
bumper stickers, yard signs and promotional materials of the like are
already popping up across the state.
These symbols of support are intended to increase candidate visibility
and may at times seem voluminous, but they are constitutionally
protected speech that should be free from government interference. At
least that is what 24- year- old Clermont residents Bryan and Leilani
Orr thought. Then, the city threatened to fine them $ 250 for refusing
to remove a political sign from their front yard.
The Orrs placed the sign in their yard to promote their presidential
favorite, Republican Congressman Ron Paul, never thinking it would
cause controversy. When a Clermont Code Enforcement Officer said they
were in violation of the city ordinance requiring candidates and their
campaigns to pay $ 50 before posting a sign, the Orrs pushed back: " I
simply wasn't going to stand idly by while the City stepped on my
rights as a citizen," Bryan said. Orr researched the ordinance and
found that the regulation did not apply to commercial, real estate, or
any signs other than those of political nature. Certain that political
speech is protected by the First Amendment, Bryan called the ACLU's
Central Florida Regional Office and was delighted to hear what they had to say.
" Political speech is the most protected of any speech," Regional
Director Glenn Katon told him. The ACLU sent a demand letter to the
City of Clermont on behalf of the Orrs citing similar ordinances around
the country that were struck down when challenged in court.
Katon left Clermont officials with two choices— end the enforcement of
their unconstitutional city ordinance or prepare to face the ACLU in
federal court.
The City of Clermont's response arrived less than 24 hours later,
stating that the city would not take any action against the Orrs. The
City also said they would continue to review the 1980 ordinance
regarding political signs and make any necessary revisions, inviting
suggestions from the ACLU for revising the ordinance and the permitting
process.
" No one should let government censor them— and when injustice arises,
we all have a duty to stand up and say not here, not to me," Orr said
after receiving the City's response. " I'm glad it's come to a
resolution that our founding fathers would be pleased with."
Once again the Orrs are displaying the sign in their front yard, and
free speech lives to see another day in Clermont. Bryan Orr stands by
his political sign in his front yard.

FBI and Police Informers and Spy/Infiltrators will infest any
political group or party to prevent any real movement for justice or
eco-peace from developing in this country.

One way to neutralize a potential activist is to get them to be in a
group that does all the wrong things. Why?
1) The message doesn't get out.
2) A lot of time is wasted
3) The activist is frustrated and discouraged
4) Nothing good is accomplished.

Agents come in small, medium or large. They can be of any ethnic
background. They can be male or female.
The actual size of the group or movement being infiltrated is
irrelevant. It is the potential the movement has for becoming large
which brings on the spies and saboteurs.

This page lists tactics agents use to slow things down, foul things
up, destroy the movement and keep tabs on activists.

It is the agent's job to keep the activist from quitting such a
group, thus keeping him/her under control.
In some situations, to get control, the agent will tell the activist:
"You're dividing the movement."
[Here, I have added the psychological reasons as to WHY this
maneuver works to control people]

This invites guilty feelings. Many people can be controlled by
guilt. The agents begin relationships with activists behind a well-
developed mask of "dedication to the cause." Because of their often
declared dedication, (and actions designed to prove this), when they
criticize the activist, he or she - being truly dedicated to the
movement - becomes convinced that somehow, any issues are THEIR
fault. This is because a truly dedicated person tends to believe
that everyone has a conscience and that nobody would dissimulate and
lie like that "on purpose." It's amazing how far agents can go in
manipulating an activist because the activist will constantly make
excuses for the agent who regularly declares their dedication to the
cause. Even if they do, occasionally, suspect the agent, they will
pull the wool over their own eyes by rationalizing: "they did that
unconsciously... they didn't really mean it... I can help them by
being forgiving and accepting " and so on and so forth.

The agent will tell the activist:
"You're a leader!"
This is designed to enhance the activist's self-esteem. His or her
narcissistic admiration of his/her own activist/altruistic
intentions increase as he or she identifies with and consciously
admires the altruistic declarations of the agent which are
deliberately set up to mirror those of the activist.

This is "malignant pseudoidentification." It is the process by which
the agent consciously imitates or simulates a certain behavior to
foster the activist's identification with him/her, thus increasing
the activist's vulnerability to exploitation. The agent will
simulate the more subtle self-concepts of the activist.

Activists and those who have altruistic self-concepts are most
vulnerable to malignant pseudoidentification especially during work
with the agent when the interaction includes matter relating to
their competency, autonomy, or knowledge.

The goal of the agent is to increase the activist's general empathy
for the agent through pseudo-identification with the activist's self-
concepts.
The most common example of this is the agent who will compliment the
activist for his competency or knowledge or value to the movement.
On a more subtle level, the agent will simulate affects and
mannerisms of the activist which promotes identification via
mirroring and feelings of "twinship". It is not unheard of for
activists, enamored by the perceived helpfulness and competence of a
good agent, to find themselves considering ethical violations and
perhaps, even illegal behavior, in the service of their
agent/handler.
The activist's "felt quality of perfection" [self-concept] is
enhanced, and a strong empathic bond is developed with the agent
through his/her imitation and simulation of the victim's own
narcissistic investments. [self-concepts] That is, if the activist
knows, deep inside, their own dedication to the cause, they will
project that onto the agent who is "mirroring" them.

The activist will be deluded into thinking that the agent shares
this feeling of identification and bonding. In an activist/social
movement setting, the adversarial roles that activists naturally
play vis a vis the establishment/government, fosters ongoing
processes of intrapsychic splitting so that "twinship alliances"
between activist and agent may render whole sectors or reality
testing unavailable to the activist. They literally "lose touch with
reality."

Activists who deny their own narcissistic investments [do not have a
good idea of their own self-concepts and that they ARE concepts] and
consciously perceive themselves (accurately, as it were) to
be "helpers" endowed with a special amount of altruism are
exceedingly vulnerable to the affective (emotional) simulation of
the accomplished agent.

Empathy is fostered in the activist through the expression of quite
visible affects. The presentation of tearfulness, sadness, longing,
fear, remorse, and guilt, may induce in the helper-oriented activist
a strong sense of compassion, while unconsciously enhancing the
activist's narcissistic investment in self as the embodiment of
goodness.

The agent's expresssion of such simulated affects may be quite
compelling to the observer and difficult to distinguish from deep
emotion.
It can usually be identified by two events, however:

First, the activist who has analyzed his/her own narcissistic roots
and is aware of his/her own potential for being "emotionally
hooked," will be able to remain cool and unaffected by such
emotional outpourings by the agent.

As a result of this unaffected, cool, attitude, the Second event
will occur: The agent will recompensate much too quickly following
such an affective expression leaving the activist with the
impression that "the play has ended, the curtain has fallen," and
the imposture, for the moment, has finished. The agent will then
move quickly to another activist/victim.

The fact is, the movement doesn't need leaders, it needs
MOVERS. "Follow the leader" is a waste of time.

A good agent will want to meet as often as possible. He or she will
talk a lot and say little. One can expect an onslaught of long,
unresolved discussions.

Some agents take on a pushy, arrogant, or defensive manner:
1) To disrupt the agenda
2) To side-track the discussion
3) To interrupt repeatedly
4) To feign ignorance
5) To make an unfounded accusation against a person.
Calling someone a racist, for example. This tactic is used to
discredit a person in the eyes of all other group members.

Saboteurs
Some saboteurs pretend to be activists. She or he will ....
1) Write encyclopedic flyers (in the present day, websites)
2) Print flyers in English only.
3) Have demonstrations in places where no one cares.
4) Solicit funding from rich people instead of grass roots support
5) Display banners with too many words that are confusing.
6) Confuse issues.
7) Make the wrong demands.
Compromise the goal.
9) Have endless discussions that waste everyone's time. The agent
may accompany the endless discussions with drinking, pot smoking or
other amusement to slow down the activist's work.

Provocateurs
1) Want to establish "leaders" to set them up for a fall in order to
stop the movement.
2) Suggest doing foolish, illegal things to get the activists in
trouble.
3) Encourage militancy.
4) Want to taunt the authorities.
5) Attempt to make the activist compromise their values.
6) Attempt to instigate violence. Activism ought to always be non-
violent.
7) Attempt to provoke revolt among people who are ill-prepared to
deal with the reaction of the authorities to such violence.

Informants
1) Want everyone to sign up and sign in and sign everything.
2) Ask a lot of questions (gathering data).
3) Want to know what events the activist is planning to attend.
4) Attempt to make the activist defend him or herself to identify
his or her beliefs, goals, and level of committment.

Recruiting
Legitimate activists do not subject people to hours of persuasive
dialog. Their actions, beliefs, and goals speak for themselves.

Groups that DO recruit are missionaries, military, and fake
political parties or movements set up by agents.

Surveillance
ALWAYS assume that you are under surveillance.
At this point, if you are NOT under surveillance, you are not a very
good activist!

Scare Tactics
They use them.
Such tactics include slander, defamation, threats, getting close to
disaffected or minimally committed fellow activists to persuade them
(via psychological tactics described above) to turn against the
movement and give false testimony against their former compatriots.

They will plant illegal substances on the activist and set up an
arrest;

they will plant false information and set up "exposure," they will
send incriminating letters [emails] in the name of the activist; and
more; they will do whatever society will allow.

This booklet in no way covers all the ways agents use to sabotage
the lives of sincere an dedicated activists.

If an agent is "exposed," he or she will be transferred or replaced.

COINTELPRO is still in operation today under a different code name.
It is no longer placed on paper where it can be discovered through
the freedom of information act.

The FBI counterintelligence program's stated purpose: To expose,
disrupt, misdirect, discredit, and otherwise neutralize individuals
who the FBI categorize as opposed to the National Interests.

"National Security" means the FBI's security from the people ever
finding out the vicious things it does in violation of people's
civil liberties.

In the last installment of the Ron Paul programming tutorial, you
learned how to get input from the user. As an example, we wrote a
program to ask the user who their favorite presidential candidate was.
However, the program didn't do much except print to the screen who
their pick was. Obviously, you would want to do something more than
that. One way to do this is by using if/else statements. If a user
picks Ron Paul, you could have the computer do one thing and if the
user picked Fred Thompson or Hillary Clinton, you could have the
computer warn the user that those candidates are members of the Counsel
on Foreign Relations. I think the best way to demonstrate this is with
an example.

In order to get input from the user, you have to use variables.
Basically, a variable stores information in RAM. A few types of
variables that can be used in FreeBASIC are strings, integers, and
doubles. If you want to store things such as people's names, you would
use a string. If you want to store numbers or do math, you would use
an integer or a double. An integer is used for whole numbers such as
1, 2 or 3. A double can be used if you want to store decimal numbers.
In order to use a variable in FreeBASIC, it has to be declared using
the dim statement. For example, if you want to use a string, you would
use the following code:
dim presidential_candidate as string

To get input from the user, you can use the input command. The
following code gives an example of this:

print "Who is your favorite US presidential candidate?"

getting started with FreeBASIC

FreeBASIC can be downloaded for free at http://www.freebasic.net.

After you download it, run the installer program if you're using
Windows. For the rest of this tutorial, I'm going to assume that you
chose "c:\freebasic" as the installation directory. If you're using
Linux, uncompress the tar.gz archive by typing the following from the
bash shell:
gunzip FreeBASIC.whatever_version.tar.gz
tar -x -f FreeBASIC.whatever.tar
Then change to the FreeBASIC directory and run ./install.sh.

Now, you're ready to get started with FreeBASIC. I will assume that
you're using the Windows operating system for the rest of this
tutorial. Type the following into a text editor such as notepad:

print "The only person to vote for for president in 2008 is Ron Paul!"

Save that code to a file called "c:\freebasic\helloamerica.bas."
To turn this code into an executable program do the following:
Go to the start menu.

If you've read this blog before, you know that I have strong opinions
about certain political issues and that I support Ron Paul. However,
besides politics, I also enjoy technology. For this reason, I decided
to create a little computer programming tutorial for beginners. Once
we get into the tutorial, you'll see why I'm calling it the Ron Paul
programming tutorial.

What is computer programming? The web browser that you are using to
read this tutorial was written by a computer programmer or group of
programmers. These programmers wrote code in a programming language
then used a computer program called a compiler to convert the human
readable code into a machine code that your computer can understand.
There are many different programming languages, but I think a good
programming language for beginners is a language called FreeBASIC, so
that's the language I will use in this tutorial. In my next post, I
will discuss how to get started with FreeBASIC.

Has this been a hectic and encouraging time! First we got almost 17% in
the Texas straw poll, an event set-up to represent the establishment,
with very restrictive voting rules. That 17% of the Republican
hierarchy would support our views, after a full day of pro-war
propaganda, is good news. Then we won the more open Maryland Republican
straw poll with 28%. In both cases, as usual, hard-working,
well-organized volunteers made all the difference. The Fox debate was
a lot of fun as well. It's true that a few of the network people are
not exactly with us on foreign or domestic policy (though one famous
guy whispered to me that he is a libertarian), but the audience-with
lots of students from the University of New Hampshire-was definitely
fair and balanced, as their enthusiastic reaction showed.
My opponents called for more war, more torture, more secret prisons,
more eavesdropping, more presidential power. Some seemed to identify
the government and the people as if they were one entity. But you and I
know that once the government moves beyond its very limited
constitutional mandate, it is an opponent of the people, a rip-off
operation that takes our money and our freedom and our social peace,
and gives us a mess of statist pottage in return.
The government failed miserably on 911 to protect us, despite spending
trillions. So the answer was supposed to be the giant, socialist
Department of Homeland Security, protecting you and me from taking our
toothpaste on the airplane. I was ridiculed for saying that the
airlines, which know best how to protect their property, should have
been allowed to arm their pilots. But then, you and I really believe in
the Second Amendment. It is not just a political slogan for us.
When I discussed the blowback that came from us intervening on the
Arabian peninsula, Chris Wallace asked me if I wanted to follow the
marching orders of al-Qaeda. I responded that I wanted to follow the
marching orders of the Constitution, and not wage undeclared,
aggressive wars that cause us only trouble. This is a mystifying to
some, of course, but not to more and more Americans.
There was much talk of taxes, and a pledge not to raise rates. But as
usual, I was not allowed to discuss my lifelong pledge to abolish the
income tax. Just holding the line, when the government takes such vast
sums through an illegitimate guilty-until-proven-innocent system, is
hardly enough. We need to slash taxes and spending if we are to have a
future of prosperity for ourselves and our families.
After the debate, many young people gathered around the stage to
discuss our ideas and ask questions about them (and to have me sign
their badges). My colleagues got no such response, and after a few
moments, "security" ordered me off the stage. Can't have any such
demonstration of interest in liberty.
But the young are with us, and so are Americans of every stripe. Even
party officials. When one of my opponent said it was OK to lose
elections through supporting the Iraq war, that set party people's
teeth on edge, and rightly so. The Republican party is shrinking. We
need new people. It's either our ideas or President Hillary, and more
and more people recognize it.
But the media, and everyone else, will be looking at fundraising totals
at the end of this month. They'll judge us by how we do. And we need
help to wage what we hope will be a full-scale, 50-state campaign.

On a personal note, some people may not think the IRS is a big deal.
However, getting rid of the IRS would mean a great deal to me. You may
think that as long as you go along with their system and fill out all
of the paperwork, everything will be fine. People in my family are
very law-abiding, but this didn't keep the IRS from going after my
parents. My family has to pay somebody to take care of my head injured
uncle. One employee that we hired didn't pay some taxes, so the IRS
came after my parents. The employee owed the money, but my parents are
just middle class people, so they couldn't afford lawyers to fight the
IRS, so this incident ended up costing my parents over $4000. The IRS
needs to be gotten rid of. This is one reason you should support Ron
Paul for president and not the establishment candidates such as Hillary
Clinton or Fred Thompson. Jee, I wonder why Ron Paul didn't get any
questions about taxes in the Fox debate the other night? Maybe because
America's tax money goes towards corporate welfare. Therefore,
corporations such as Fox are afraid of Ron Paul's candidacy.

appears that John Edwards is attempting to turn America into a
socialist country. He has proposed a socialist health care plan that
would force every American to see a doctor when the government wants

doctor and for tax payers to pay for it? Since John Edwards is running

Alex Jones was joined on air yesterday by investigative journalist,
economic expert and Harvard Doctor of Political Science Jerome Corsi
for an in depth discussion on the state of the economy and the
engineered decline towards regionalization and a globalized monetary system.
Corsi warned that the crisis in the stock market we are currently
witnessing is simply the tip of the iceberg and part of an overall
meltdown that represents a gutting of the United States by
neo-mercantilist institutions bent on the formation of a new global monopoly.
"We're gonna go through Stagflation, which is basically stagnation and
inflation. We are already in a recession, it just hasn't been publicly
declared yet. I think it will deepen through the rest of 2007 into
2008. Corsi stated.
"It's going to last several years, it's largely because we've lost so
much of the manufacturing to China, even when our currency tanks, there
are no exports we are producing anymore that will gain. The currency is
gone, it is being sold off very quietly, worldwide, by the oil
producing states, by China, the Euro is increasingly becoming our
foreign exchange reserve currency.
The primary indices of inflation have been taken out of the indexes,
food is not in and neither is energy prices. These two are going up
hugely right now and are going to continue to go up."
Corsi warned that this is going to be the formula for producing the
Amero, a continental solution to the tanking of the Dollar.

Last September Corsi received the first documents pertaining to a FOIA
request asking for full disclosure of activities towards creating a Pan
American Union .
The documents show that a wide range of US administrative law is being
re-written in stealth under the Security and Prosperity Partnership
program to "integrate" and "harmonize" with administrative law in
Mexico and Canada, just as has become commonplace within the EU.
The documents contain references to upwards of 13 working groups within
an entire organized infrastructure that has drawn from officials within
most areas of administrative government including U.S. departments of
State, Homeland Security, Commerce, Treasury, Agriculture,
Transportation, Energy, Health and Human Services, and the office of
the U.S. Trade Representative.
Corsi also reported that at a recent high-level confab in Banff, an
assistant U.S. secretary of state, Thomas A. Shannon , chaired a panel
that featured a presentation by Prof. Robert Pastor, author of a book
promoting the development of a North American union as a regional
government and the adoption of the Amero as a common monetary currency
to replace the dollar and the peso.
Just a conspiracy theory? Not according to leading economists such as
Steve Previs of Jefferies International who stated on CNBC , "I think
one thing for people who are dollar based need to focus on is the
Amero, that's the one thing that nobody is talking about that I think
is going to have a big impact... on everybody's life in Canada, the
U.S. and Mexico..."
A global crash and a totally devalued dollar that can barely rival the
peso are greasing the skids for a single North American currency. This
spells disaster for all Americans who wish to maintain their standard
of living and not find themselves barefoot on the street in a bread queue.
Corsi went on to forecast a five to seven year deep recession:
"We will not recover from this for at least five years. If people think
that housing values are dropped today it's nothing, housing values are
going to go down fifty percent or more from the peak. We're going to
come to a point when condominiums in certain markets are worthless.
It's not that there won't be buyers out there, there just won't be
credit for them. You're going to have a credit crunch now, where even
if you're qualified you're going to have to have 20% down and even then
you might have a hard time getting a loan at a reasonable rate for a house."
Corsi urged anyone in the position to do so to quickly pay off any
mortgages and get out of debt. Secondly he suggests investment in gold,
rather than stocks and bonds which are based on fiat money and are
going to decline tremendously in value:
"The derivative market could be a 450 trillion worldwide market that is
going to collapse. Just in the hedge funds alone in the United States,
and in the mortgage market there is between 3 and 5 trillion dollars of
debt that is going to collapse. That means three to five trillion
dollars of losses. Somebody is going to have to absorb that and the
reason that the federal reserve is throwing out so much money into bank
reserves is because we would've already had bank failures."
Dr Corsi also warned against the school of thought that says if you get
a bigger mortgage, as long as you have savings to pay for it, you can
accelerate the pay off of it with inflation. He stressed that unless
you have a long term fixed rate mortgage and you fully understand the
terms of your contract you could at any point be subject to a change in
terms and the loan could be called in:
"There is going to be a grab on this property by people who have cash,
and that's not going to be the middle class. People will lose their
homes if they have large mortgages that they cannot comfortably sustain
or pay off.
There's going to be a grab where the institutions and the people
already wealthy will only gain, it's not going to be an opportunity for
the average person to gain."
Corsi also asserted that the ongoing meltdown is a global one and it is
going to be very severe, forcing regionalization and providing the
impetus to saying harmonization of national economies is the only way
we can handle this coming huge recession.
Dr Corsi firmly believes that the crisis is an engineered one on behalf
of a global elite who have long pushed for a regionalization, a single
currency and a market they can monopolize more effectively:
"It is engineered because again, the move toward globalism, the pumping
of this liquidity to stimulate the markets was totally artificial. The
federal reserve is going to get caught right now in a total dilemma, if
it raises rates to protect the dollar, its going to further tank the
economy and cause the housing markets to be in even more of a crisis.
We have economic stagnation, the loss of real income, the loss of real
wealth and inflation at the same time. With the dropping of the dollar
the crisis is going to be manipulated to the point where people will
take the Amero or any regional solution if it is proposed as the way
you get out of your problem."
He further warned that the 400 billion injected into the stock markets
last week is merely a temporary measure to slow down and control an
overall meltdown and was only done to prevent a sudden massive crash.
mirroring the analysis of the Financial Times of London and former
World Bank chief economist Joseph Stiglitz Corsi stated that he sees no
way to stop the meltdown, the only doubt left is whether it is going to
be a fast or slow process.
He also believes there is an even money chance that there could be a
huge 1929 style economic depression:
"This is the fastest run I've seen ever to get to the goal line of
creating a Untied States regional economy, a North American Union. The
elite are running like they'll never have this chance again. It is the
tenth hour, the eleventh hour where this battle will be fought. They
believe that they can win now and they are going for broke to create a
North American Union and tank the dollar."
The decline of the economy in the US is being caused by the very
predatory globalist policies that are still presented to us as the
solution for economic turmoil. Globalist vampires such as the IMF and
the World bank, but two of the elite central banks and private
interests, have drained the third world dry, and are now focusing their
attention on enslaving the developed world.
The single currency and a 'new economic order' is a major step on the
road to global governance. Europe already has its own strong single
currency, while the dollar's days seem to be numbered. When money is
being printed and distributed by private corporations is it any
surprise to see a push for a merger with other countries' currencies?
Talk has long been of a global currency by 2018 if plans go
accordingly. A 1988 famous cover of The Economist emphasized this,
depicting a phoenix standing atop burning paper money symbolizing its
rise out of their destruction, with the words "Get ready for a world
currency" next to it.
The article carried in The Economist, titled "Get Ready for the
Phoenix," stated that, "THIRTY years from now, Americans, Japanese,
Europeans, and people in many other rich countries, and some relatively
poor ones will probably be paying for their shopping with the same currency."
The article went on to state that sovereignty will be lost with the
advent of the new currency, but that trends towards globalization are
already doing away with it anyway.
The phoenix zone would impose tight constraints on national
governments. There would be no such thing, for instance, as a national
monetary policy. The world phoenix supply would be fixed by a new
central bank, descended perhaps from the IMF. The world inflation rate
- and hence, within narrow margins, each national inflation rate- would
be in its charge. Each country could use taxes and public spending to
offset temporary falls in demand, but it would have to borrow rather
than print money to finance its budget deficit. With no recourse to the
inflation tax, governments and their creditors would be forced to judge
their borrowing and lending plans more carefully than they do today.
This means a big loss of economic sovereignty, but the trends that make
the phoenix so appealing are taking that sovereignty away in any case.
Even in a world of more-or-less floating exchange rates, individual
governments have seen their policy independence checked by an
unfriendly outside world.
"Pencil in the phoenix for around 2018, and welcome it when it comes,"
the article concludes.
In 2004 Robert Mundell, the Nobel-prize winning economist often
credited with paving the way to the European single currency, called
for a global currency .
In an interview with French paper Libération, Mundell said: "With the
emergence of the euro and its instability against the dollar, Europe,
the United States and the Asian powers should come together and create
a new international monetary system."
In 2006 the scandal-ridden and highly secretive Bank For International
Settlements, considered to be the world's top central banking policy,
released a policy paper that called for the end of national currencies
in favor of a global model of currency formats.
The BIS is a branch of the of the Bretton-Woods International Financial
architecture and closely allied with the Bilderberg Group. It is
controlled by an inner elite that represents all the world's major
central banking institutions. John Maynard Keynes, perhaps the most
influential economist of all time, wanted it closed down as it was used
to launder money for the Nazis in World War II.
It appears we are now seeing the slow realization of a global economic
system with a single currency.
The end game of such regionalizing harmonization is of course a global
government.
It has long been recognized that an instant world government would be
roundly rejected by the masses and that a stepping stone agenda, a
stealth implementation of a new global order is the key to its success.
Writing in the April 1974 issue of Foreign Affairs, the flagship
publication of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), Richard N.
Gardner , who has held a number of State Department posts, argued
against what he called "instant world government." Instead, he wrote,
"the 'house of world order' will have to be built from the bottom up
rather than from the top down. It will look like a great 'booming,
buzzing confusion,' to use William James' famous description of
reality, but an end run around national sovereignty, eroding it piece
by piece, will accomplish much more than the old-fashioned frontal assault."
In a similar sentiment, former National Security Adviser and co-founder
of the Trilateral Commission, Zbigniew Brzezinski pointed to
"regionalization" as the key for "globalization" in his address to
Gorbechev's State of the World Forum in October 1995: "The precondition
for eventual globalization — genuine globalization — is progressive
regionalization, because thereby we move toward larger, more stable,
more cooperative units."
Last May the first steps towards the biggest "cooperative unit" there
has ever been were cemented with the groundwork being set for a EU-US
single market . However, as the CFR would say, amidst the "booming,
buzzing confusion" few have noticed.
Jerome Corsi concluded by re-iterating that the economic crisis has
been manufactured in order to provide the pre-scripted neo-mercantilist
solution:
"We'd never get rid of the sovereignty of the United States or the
dollar unless there was a crisis. The Council on Foreign Relations, two
issues ago Ben Steel one of their top economists wrote an article
openly declaring that national monetary systems were dead and that we
need to go to regional moneys and that we need to go to global moneys.
We are going to be told very quickly that the only way the federal
government can protect us is if we allow the federal government to
become a North American government."

The credibility of the online encyclopedia Wikipedia has taken another dive
after a newly developed software program exposed how the CIA, corporations
like Diebold and others routinely edit entries to bury criticism and
manipulate the truth.. . . .

Now a CalTech graduate student has developed a software tool that threatens
to slam the final nail in the coffin of any credibility Wikipedia had left.

"Wikipedia Scanner -- the brainchild of CalTech computation and
neural-systems graduate student Virgil Griffith -- offers users a searchable
database that ties millions of anonymous Wikipedia edits to organizations
where those edits apparently originated, by cross-referencing the edits with
data on who owns the associated block of internet IP addresses," reports
Wired News.

"On November 17th, 2005, an anonymous Wikipedia user deleted 15
paragraphs from an article on e-voting machine-vendor Diebold, excising an
entire section critical of the company's machines. While anonymous, such
changes typically leave behind digital fingerprints offering hints about the
contributor, such as the location of the computer used to make the edits."

"In this case, the changes came from an IP address reserved for the
corporate offices of Diebold itself. And it is far from an isolated case. A
new data-mining service launched Monday traces millions of Wikipedia entries
to their corporate sources, and for the first time puts comprehensive data
behind longstanding suspicions of manipulation, which until now have
surfaced only piecemeal in investigations of specific allegations."

Griffith has compiled a list of different corporations and branches of
government that have abused the so-called impartiality of Wikipedia to
essentially edit the truth out of existence, replacing it with a PR friendly
facade favorable not to the facts or any sense of neutrality, but only to
the interests of the parties concerned.

The Wikipedia Scanner (HYPERLINK "http://wikiscanner.virgil.gr/"
\nhttp://wikiscanner.virgil.gr/) also allows users to type in an IP range
and find out which organizations are editing what pages on Wikipedia.

"The result: A database of 5.3 million edits, performed by 2.6 million
organizations or individuals ranging from the CIA to Microsoft to
Congressional offices, now linked to the edits they or someone at their
organization's net address has made. Some of this appears to be
transparently self-interested, either adding positive, press release-like
material to entries, or deleting whole swaths of critical material,"
concludes the Wired report.

Here is my personal letter to my representatives.

Hello. I oppose any more involvement from the federal government in health care. Rather than the federal government being involved in health care, this should be left to the states. The 10th amendment of the US constitution says "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved for the States respectively, or to the people." The US constitution doesn't give the federal government the power to control health care. The more the federal government is involved in health care, the less competition there will be in the quality of health care people get. Just because the federal government is already partly involved in health care doesn't make it right.

I would like to challenge supporters of universal health care to move to a country that has socialized health care such as Canada. I've heard that people in those countries pull teeth out with plyers instead of going to the dentist.

Here's a short dialogue from pp 50-51 of my 2005 book, Maybe the People Have

Saturday in Ames, Iowa. --------

It concerns the shocking loss by my friend Richard Mack in an Arizona
Sheriff's race in 1996. Mack had been an "enemy" of the DC empire since
filing his opposition to the Brady Bill [which he took all the way to the
Supreme Court and won]. He later spoke with the late James Collier, author
of VoteScam, the first expose' of the computer fraud techniques in America.
Collier had told him on the phone that he had been "had."

"How do you mean?" queried the befuddled sheriff.
"Let me ask you three questions [said Collier]. First, was there a computer
vote count?"
"Yes."
"Strike one!" said Collier. "Second, were the total numbers pretty much the
same in all the precincts?"
"All except two," said Mack.
"Strike two! And was there a power outage?"
Yep, matter of fact there was, at about ten o'clock on election night,
during the vote count."
"Strike three," replied Collier. "You were definitely had."

[Not much difference between a power outage and a contrived breakdown, I
reckon. Both provide the necessary time to reload the results.]

Apparently, the only reason for this otherwise insignificant deception of
who is the front-runner is that the propaganda machine will now not have to
mention Ron Paul's name for the next several months until the next hoopla in
the fall. After all, he finished sixth, right?!! [See Monday's papers for
confirmation.] But if they'd had to report the real figures, it would have
been Romney and Rudy that would have been in the closet, with RP in the
headlines for the next several months. Unacceptable!

However, the deceivers may have shot themselves in the foot again, as they
have exposed to the naive -- for very little reward -- their techniques of
deception, which gives the Paul camp ample time to arm for the real
onslaught in 2008. I predict a bigger groundswell for Ron Paul in 2008 than
the 20 million votes that George Wallace was about to get in 1972. I also
fear that a similar fate could befall this first real voice of the people in
35 years. Surely we will see a lesser attack later this year [before the New
Hampshire Primary] of some kind of phony scandal. Only time will tell of
what variety that will be.

Fuzzy Math: The Iowa Straw Poll

I met with the Vote in the Sunshine crew on the morning of the Straw Poll in
Ames. They were told by the Iowa GOP that there would be a total of 60
shiny new Diebold Accuvote Optical Scan machines deployed in 3 separate
locations. As the Des Moines Register stated on August 10:

"Employees of the Story County elections office will oversee the casting of
ballots at 60 machines at three buildings on the Iowa State University
campus."

I helped with vote verification in the morning and walked around the venue
during the afternoon. There was no shortage of voters queuing up to vote
from my observations, with long lines snaking around the three voting
locations, especially in the early voting.

As to the voting machine 'malfunctions', the Des Moines Register said this:
"Voting machine difficulties delayed the announcement of the vote totals.
About 1,500 ballots needed to be recounted, said Mary Tiffany, a spokeswoman
for Republican Party of Iowa.

Two machines caused the problem, said State Auditor David Vaudt. "What
likely happened is someone submitted their ballot too quickly after the
other," he said. The ballots from those machines were hand counted, then
re-fed into the system to recalculate the vote. A campaign poll-watcher said
in one instance, a black box contained 500 paper ballots but the machine's
memory said it had scanned in 498."

Because of the heat most folks were at least trying to get in the shortest
lines they could find, and it did not appear that any of the 3 locations
were underutilized.

FUZZY MATH #1
So we know from the state Auditor that one 'problem' machine contained 500
votes. Assuming most machines contained a similar pattern of use, then they
should also contain about the same number of votes. 60 (machines) x 500 =
30,000 votes. That is more than TWICE as many as the official count. Based
on a total vote count of 14,301, if all machines were used about equally,
then the average number of votes per machine SHOULD have been 238 {14,301
(total votes) / 60 (machines) = 238 votes per machine}. What are the odds
that one of the machines that 'malfunctioned' and actually gave up an
audited vote tally would contain TWICE as many votes as the 'average'
machine? But it gets worse…

FUZZY MATH #2
State Auditor David Vaudt (who unofficially certified the vote count) said
that there were only 2 machines out of the 60 that were inconsistent (paper
printout vs. electronic tabulation) and needed to be recounted. Mary
Tiffany of the Iowa GOP said that a total of approximately 1500 votes were
re-fed into the Diebold machines. Since we know that there were only two
machines that were a problem and one of them contained 500 votes, then the
second machine must have contained about 1000 ballots, which is more than
FOUR TIMES what the 'average' machine should contain based on a total vote
of 14,301. It seems more likely that there were actually 3 problem
machines, and the true average per machine was about 500 votes, which would
have resulted in a total vote of about 30,000 which is twice the official
total vote count.

Also note that 26,000 tickets were said to have been sold, so we are asked
to believe that only about half those people voted.

MORE UNUSUAL NUMBERS
The day before the election the Iowa GOP stated on their web site that they
expected to raise $1.2 million in ticket sales, which is 34,000+ tickets.
This number jives much more closely with the fact that the single audited
machine (that we know of) contained 500 ballots. The vast majority of
tickets are pre-sold. Yet, on the day of the event they said they had only
sold about 26,000 tickets. How did they manage to grossly overestimate the
tickets to be sold (8000+ off) within 24 hours of the event?

The evening before the Straw Poll, a local TV news show carried a story that
the expected attendance for the next day had just been increased from a
maximum of 40,000 up to 45,000 - 50,000. Yet, according to the Iowa GOP,
the very next day only 30,000 to 33,000 showed up.

It is interesting to note that the Iowa GOP had an online straw poll on
their very own website (HYPERLINK "http://www.iowagop.net/"

Supporters! Let's clean up America for Ron Paul,

While others are relaxing at barbeques with family and friends this Labor Day weekend let's clean up America for Ron Paul! You can work one day or all three it's entirely up to you. Pick up one bag or twenty, it's all good.

During my 38 mile walk from my home to my state (NH) capital I saw a lot of trash on the side of the road. It occurred to me that, like the walk, a clean-up effort might be a positive way to get some attention to the campaign.

My vision is that Ron Paul supporters all over the country organize their own efforts. You can clean up the sides of roads, parks or even beaches. My suggestion would be to at least go where there are lots of people. Bring some signs to stick in the ground (while you are cleaning), wear your favorite Ron Paul t-shirt and don't forget to bring some literature to hand out to people that are curious about Ron Paul.

Please video your efforts if at all possible and take lots of photos. I'm going to put together a press release and contact the national (and my local) media before and after the event. I want to get a tally of all the trash collected over the weekend so PLEASE send me your results.

You don't have to be in a meet-up group to participate. This is something you can just do as family if you like. Take your kids to a park and clean up the park with them or the beach. Any effort is appreciated and will add to our total trash count. :)

Everyone that plans on participating please email me your name, email, and where (and which day and time) you plan on cleaning and I'll work on getting some press for your efforts. This is your event so handle your state/city/beach clean-up however you'd like. If you would just send me info on what you're doing so I can put together an impressive list for the national media that would be fantastic. I'd also love to get a head count and/or list of names. So, contact me with that info too...first names are fine if you prefer. I'd just like to be able to tell the press how many supporters participated and how many bags of trash we collected.

Let's get this on EVERY national and local television station out there! Let's make this clean-up HUGE and get the Paul campaign lots of press all while we are doing some good for our communities!

Iowa Strawpoll results for Ron Paul
On Saturday, Iowa had a straw poll. Congressmen Ron Paul got 9% of the
vote. It may seem like Ron Paul didn't do well. However, under the
circumstances he didn't do that bad. He did better than Fred Thompson
which was considered one of the "top teer" candidates. There was
nothing scientific about that poll. Mitt Romney baught over 1000
tickets to give away to voters. Basically, because of his donations
from special interests, he was able to purchase his win.

Citizen Vigilance Essential

As things stand today, about 60 citizen camera crews and about 200 citizen
volunteers are needed to conduct a "citizens' exit poll" to double check the
easily rigged Diebold electronic voting machines which the Iowa GOP intends
to use to "count" the vote at the Ames, Iowa Straw Poll on August 11, 2007 -
just a week from now.

If you can possibly attend and/or donate to help with this "citizens' exit
poll" - see the action items at the end of this update - but first:

Picture this:

Next Saturday, from 10 am to 6 pm, more than 25,000 residents of the State
of Iowa will arrive on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames. They
will be 18 years of age or older. They will be there to choose one man from
a list of eleven men as their choice to be the next President of the United
States of America.

At one of 60 vote stations they will receive a paper ballot. They will
pencil in an oval next to the candidate of their choice. They will enter the
paper ballot into a machine that will scan the entire ballot and record the
vote. After voting, each voter will place a thumb into a container of purple
ink.

After scanning each ballot the machine will deposit the ballot into a "black
box" within the Diebold machine. At 6 pm each machine and black box are
transported to a centralized "tabulation" room. The door to the room will be
closed to the public.

The ballots are not removed from their black boxes or counted. Instead, a
button on the machine is pressed. In response, the machine ejects a slip of
paper showing the number of votes recorded by that machine for each
candidate. The results are tabulated. Someone then leaves the room and
announces the results of the vote to the assembled media representatives.
Each person casting a vote will have paid $35 to do so. The ten men on the
list are all Republicans. The Iowa Republican Party is sponsoring the event,
which is known as the Ames Straw Poll, also the Iowa Straw Poll.

nomination is undecided Ames plays host to the

support for the various Republican candidates. The straw poll dates back to
1979, and is frequently seen as a first test of organizational strength in
Iowa by the national media and party insiders; as such, it can be very
beneficial for a candidate to win the straw poll and thus enhance his aura
of inevitability or show off a superior field operation. Ames is a city

On the list of eleven candidates will be the so-call party insurgents or
second tier candidates, including Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, Duncan Hunter, Sam
Brownback, and Mike Huchabee.

Vote fraud is a problem, even in America, where elections have been stolen
from non-party favorites by political parties. One such event occurred in
Iowa in 1995. See "A

the November 1996 edition of Chronicles Magazine.

"Political parties," according to Thomas Jefferson, "are by their nature,
corruptive."

The Iowa Republican Party will use 60 Diebold computers to record and count
the votes.

NOTE: A study by computer scientists at the University of California paid
for by the Secretary of State of California (publicized last week, July 28,
2007, in the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times) showed that the
Diebold computers were easily hacked, easily rigged, -- and totally
unreliable for conducting elections.

The UC study confirmed the results of several other authoritative studies
from MIT, Cal Tech, Princeton University, and numerous other sources. A
search of "Diebold Princeton University" on YOUTUBE will yield a 9 minute
demonstration. Adding "FOX News" to the search will yield another 3 minute
demonstration by the Princeton scientists.

electronic voting systems used in California and elsewhere in the nation and
found several ways in which vote totals could potentially be altered,

The Diebold computers being used to "count" the votes at the Iowa Straw Poll
could be used to steal the election from Ron Paul or one of the other party
insurgents by, say, "stuffing the ballot box" with "votes" for a party
favorite(s) by thousands of phantom voters, or by transposing some set
percentage of votes from one or more of the insurgents to one or more of the
party favorites, thereby showing the insurgent(s) such as Ron Paul with far
fewer votes than he actually received.

Now picture this:

On Tuesday, August 7, 2007, a letter is delivered to the Iowa Republican
Party and the State and County Boards of Elections. The letter is signed by
various good-government and election reform organizations and holders of $35
tickets that entitle them to vote in the Ames Straw Poll. The letter says
that unless the following 10-point program is agreed to, a court order will
be sought to enjoin and prohibit the Ames Straw Poll until the reforms are
agreed to:

1. From the time the voter votes to the time the results of the vote are
publicly announced, all paper ballots are never out of the view of the
public.

2. Instead of being deposited into a black box, each completed paper
ballot is deposited into a numbered, clear-plastic, container that is in
clear public view all day. The number on the container matches a number on
the machine. The numbers are 4 inches high, black on white.

3. Each candidate on the ballot has the Right to have an observer
present for an inspection by the County of each container. The single
inspection is scheduled to take place 9:55 am at each of the 60 vote
stations.

4. Surrounding each vote station at a distance of 30 feet from the
numbered clear plastic container is a rope beyond which any person can
quietly stand to quietly observe the clear-plastic containers and the number
of voters.

5. As the voting period ends, each ballot box is set on one of two 72"
cafeteria-style tables that have been set up at each of the 60 voting
stations. There, the ballots are separated and hand counted.

6. Besides two members of the staff of the County or State Board of
Elections, each candidate has a Right to have a representative participate
in the counting process. All county and candidate Counters must agree on the
candidate allocation of each vote. Once all Counters are in agreement on the
allocation of all votes, the result of the count is read aloud for public
consumption.

7. The paper ballots are then returned to the numbered, clear-plastic
containers, which are then transported to a central location, -- never out
of view of the county and candidate observers or the general public.

8. At the central location, the containers are placed inside an area
that has been roped off. Within the roped off area, chairs have been set up
for the county and candidate counters.

9. As each numbered container arrives at the central location, the
results of the hand-counted vote is read aloud by one of the County
observers and entered into a computer for projection onto a screen in the
room and for posting on the County and State websites.

10. After the results of the vote from each of the 60 vote stations is
read aloud, the cumulative totals from the hand-counts are agreed to by the
county and candidate Counters, read aloud and entered into the computer for
projection onto the screen in the room and for posting on the County and
State websites. This process is continued until the results of the vote at
all 60 vote stations have been read aloud and added to the prior total.

NOTE: The Ames Straw Poll is the very first contest that has any meaning in
the run up to the Presidential election. The People need to do everything
possible to insist that elections are fair and votes are counted properly.
Besides the possibility of a court order on the side of a fair vote count
there is a serious effort underway by Citizens For a Fair Vote Count and the
"Vote In Sunshine Project" to conduct a "Citizens' Exit Poll" that would
include a signed, notarized affidavit by the voter stating who he/she voted
for. For more information about the Citizens' Exit Poll go to

The Iowa Republican Party can be expected to resist this "open and honest
vote count" process at the Straw Poll. Therefore, Citizens For a Fair Vote
Count urgently needs 200 volunteers to help conduct the double-check on the
easily rigged Diebold machines at Ames this Saturday (August 11, 2007), and
they need some funds for the printing of "exit poll" pamphlets, signs and
paper ballots and the tents. There will also be filing fees and other costs
associated with any legal action. Please volunteer and/or contribute to help
us accomplish this vital step for honest elections everywhere. A
breakthrough is needed now.

NOTE: Whatever gets painted on the canvas of history depends on the people
we see when we look into the mirror.

1. If you live in Iowa, make sure you are in Ames next Saturday to
VOTE. Talk to your friends and relatives; pool your money and car pool. How
or whether you are registered to vote makes no difference. All you need is
proof that you are 18 or over and that you live in Iowa.

In a radio interview today on the Dale Williams Show, Jeff Greenspan, Western Regional Campaign Coordinator for the Ron Paul campaign made an astounding announcement that the Paul camp now has more than 20,000 registered volunteers. Mr. Greenspan stated "I don't know any campaign in history that has had that many volunteers." Against the will of the mainstream media, this unbelievable amount of support is showing that Ron Paul's campaign is transparently evolving into a social movement. Later in the show, a caller asked why the main stream media is ignoring Ron Paul. Mr. Greenspan stated that there is a clear bias against the Paul campaign by mainstream pundits. He gave the example of the last Republican debate where Fox News did a CELL PHONE POLL. Before and during the poll, Sean Hannity explained at length how this poll would be scientific. Alluding to previous internet polls where Ron Paul had dominated, Sean Hannity quickly recanted his claims that Fox's
cell phone poll was scientific when all of a sudden Dr. Paul again began to receive more votes than any other candidate. Mr. Greenspan also stated that Ron Paul is now third in terms of campaign dollars among his Republican counterparts and the contributions are growing at an enormous rate.

What a great time we had in San Antonio last weekend. An enthusiastic bunch of Texans thronged the Alamo for a rally, and then there was a fundraising dinner at an historic museum. More than a thousand people attended one or the other. San Antonio is a military town. Indeed, I served there myself in the Air Force, and lots of soldiers and airmen came up to offer their support. Some were Iraq veterans, some were headed there, and all supported getting us out. As I told the crowd, with our non-interventionist foreign policy, there would be 3,600 young Americans still alive, and 25,000 more not badly wounded. It got the biggest response of the evening. Then a 14-year-old girl told me she was helping the campaign so her daddy, a soldier, would not have to go to Iraq. I told her there are many thousands of us working to that exact end, to keep him and all the others safe. What an outrage that we are accused of not supporting the troops. What a scam when the warmongers claim to
be pro-soldier.

Lots of military people turned out to be aware that our campaign got more donations from soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines than any other. Funny, that made a big impression in Congress too. Many of my colleagues were amazed and encouraged that you can be against this unconstitutional and disastrous war, and get military support. This weekend I meet with family, high-school classmates, and local friends and supporters in Pittsburgh http://www.ronpaul2008.com/events/pittsburgh-area-rally/. We are really looking forward to it!

Then it's a full week in Iowa. On Sunday, there's the ABC debate http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=3437758&page=1 , and next weekend is the Ames straw poll. Other campaigns seem to be pulling back, to try to lower expectations. We are stepping things up, with more staff, another office, and a significant TV and radio buy. This all costs a lot of money, of course, as does our continuing work in New Hampshire, South Carolina, Arizona, and other states. But I have been thrilled by the support among Iowa Republicans for our issues—on the war, on pro-life, on fiscal conservatism. This is fertile territory for us. Now we just have to work harder than our opponents at recruiting supporters, organizing them, and getting them to the straw poll. Some media have hinted that a good showing by our campaign would be a bombshell. I don't make predictions, but I am cautiously optimistic about our chances. However, I very much need your help.

We got a lot of good publicity earlier about our prudence in spending. Indeed, I treat every donation with care, since it comes from a good American who shares our hope for the future, and who had to work hard to earn that money. But all that publicity about our non-spendthrift ways had a "blowback" effect—if you will excuse the expression. Why do you support Hillary Clinton?

Hillary Clinton is doing good in some election poles, but I don't know
why. Do you really think she is sincere? Do you really think she
cares about the American people? If so, you should ask yourself the
following questions. Why did she vote for the "Patriot Act?" Notice
that I have "Patriot Act" in quotes. That's because for what it does,
"Patriot Act" wasn't a good name for it. It should probably be called
The Government Can Spy on it's citizens Act. Hillary supporters, why
do you want to be spied on? If this isn't bad enough, she voted to
send American troops in harms way for an unnecessary war. You might
say that both democrats and republicans voted for the war originally.
However, there is one congressmen who voted against both The "Patriot
Act" and the war in Iraq from the beginning. His name is Ron Paul and
he is running for president in 2008. For a starting point for

On 07-29-07, Ron Paul received more votes in the Georgetown County (South Carolina) Republican Party presidential primary straw poll than did Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani and John McCain. Congressman Paul was second in the poll. Fred Thompson placed first.

According to a press release issued today by Georgetown County Republican Chairman Tom Swatzel, there were 223 total votes cast. He said, "For our first ever straw poll, I am pleased with the turn out. It was an enthusiastic crowd that was the essence of grassroots politics at its best."

The Union Leader sensors Brown supporters

Ed and Elaine Brown are a couple of tax protesters who were convicted
in a one-sided trial at the beginning of this year. Now, they are
refusing to go to prison. The New Hampshire newspaper called The Union
Leader just did a story about the tax protesters. If you read the

you would think that everybody in New Hampshire wants the Browns to
either be killed or go to prison. One of the comments even compared Ed
and Elaine Brown to murderers. However, not everybody in New Hampshire
hates the Browns. The reason all of the comments on the article are
against the Browns is because the Union Leader is sensoring comments
from Ed and Elaine Brown supporters. A couple people on the Quest for
Fair Trial blog (http://questforfairtrialinconcordnh.blogspot.com/)
have said that their comments weren't posted. I tried to comment a few
hours ago, but that comment also has yet to be posted. Tell the Union
Leader to stop being bias in favor of the IRS. Their contact

a few reasons to support Ron Paul

1. The United States needs to stop being the world's police. We have
military in over 130 countries.
2. The IRS needs to be gotten rid of. In order to do that, all we
have to do is cut some government programs.
3. The FDA makes it harder for people to get information about
alternative treatments for health problems. Think about it, when you
go to a doctor, what do they usually do? Give you a prescription
pharmaceutical drug right? Do you have allergies? Take Clarotin Z or
whatever they are on now. How does diet fit in? hmmmm I bet big
pharmaceutical drug companies are happy about America's dependance on
prescription drugs. It must be nice to be a pharmaceutical drug
company because you ineffect get subsidized by government programs such
as medicaid while alternative treatments are not. What we have is a
government/corporate complex which encourages the dependance on
prescription drugs.

In the past, Simon Constable from TheStreet.com has done some mildly positive, mildly misleading stories/articles on Ron Paul and his idea of "returning to the gold standard." I critiqued one of his earlier articles here, and did a followup critique here.

The gist of my criticism is this: Mr. Constable tries to make it appear that Ron Paul wants to "go back" to an inflexible system that was abandoned in the 19th century. Nothing could be further from the truth. Dr. Paul himself has said there were flaws with the past system, and he would in fact like to move forward to a new, commodity-based, honest money system. A 100% reserve gold standard has never, in fact, existed in the United States.

After my first critique, Mr. Constable emailed me, thanking me for my interesting perspective. Recently, he again emailed me with a link to a new video/story that he's done on Ron Paul and the gold standard. In this new video, Mr. Constable interviews random people in front of the New York Stock Exchange. The first question he poses is whether they know what the gold standard is. Woefully, no one does. He then goes on to ask the same ignorant people, "Presidential candidate Ron Paul wants to abolish the Fed and reintroduce the gold standard. Do you think that is a good idea?"

Certainly, there is no point in asking ignorant people for advice on a topic, and certainly Mr. Constable knows that such advice worthless. So why ask it?

Monday July 23, MSNBC-Hardball with Chris Matthews will be filmed in Hardball Plaza outside the regular studio. Regular citizens will be allowed on set.

Tuesday July 24, Aug.7, Aug.21, Sept.4, Sept.18, Oct.2, Oct.16 & 30, MSNBC will continue their all day "Super" Tuesday campaign coverage leading up to the Feb.5, 2008 national primary and caucus day. They have been shooting some shows from on location around D.C.

Dodd supporters have managed to be in the audience on most previous shows with Dodd campaign signs, hence free coverage on national television for their candidate. If you are in or near the D.C. area these upcoming shows would be a great opportunity to get Ron Paul's name some free TV time. Our largest task is still name recognition for Dr.Paul. The majority of Americans still don't know who he is and some haven't even heard his name. If one to three RP volunteers would attend these shows with signs and position yourself behind the guests or the host to be in the camera angle, it could help to get added name ID for RP. I don't think they will keep you off the set for having RP signs, but if you think they would, you could take a bumper sticker and keep it in a pocket, and after you get on the set, just take it and hold it up to the camera when they shoot your area of the crowd. Waala ! FREE ADVERTISEMENT...Don't forget to keep smiling you will be on national television.

This could also be done in NYC on the different network morning shows. You would actually reach more people on these shows than the cable shows. Anyway, we need some of you locales (or vacationers) to please step forward and help get Ron Paul's name out to America. Signs with the web address are best, so interested persons can learn more about the campaign. Anyone willing to help on this project ? Anyone think this is a good idea ?

Music industry countersued

stationed at Fort Campbell, who has been targeted by the RIAA for file
sharing he did not commit, has fought back, counterclaiming against the
record companies for copyright misuse, in Warner v. Paternoster:

Music-industry litigation tactics against suspected online music
pirates face a challenge in Tennessee, with an Army sergeant arguing
that record labels have engaged in a "conspiracy" to defraud courts and
violate privacy rights.
The claims come in response to a lawsuit against Nicholas Paternoster
of Clarksville, Tenn., 33, soldier at nearby Fort Campbell, who is
accused of infringing copyrights by using the peer-to-peer file-sharing
program Kazaa to distribute songs online.

In the response, Paternoster denies the allegations of copyright
infringement and responds with a counterclaim charging that the record
labels are abusing copyright law.
The labels, "ostensibly competitors in the recording industry, are a
cartel acting together in violation of the antitrust laws and public
policy," allege Paternoster's attorneys from the Nashville law firm
Beam & Rogers.
The countersuit points out that although the recording industry singled
out only six songs whose copyrights were infringed, the complaint
includes screenshots of more than 4,600 files from Paternoster's
personal computer, including hundreds of apparently pornographic
pictures and movies.
According to another document filed in the case, Paternoster was
unaware that the Kazaa software was installed on his computer. While on
a tour of duty in Germany from 2004 to 2005, the document says, another
soldier downloaded the software and set up a Kazaa account under
Paternoster's name.
Last summer Paternoster discovered the software and "thousands of files
downloaded on his computer by the soldiers he housed," and he
uninstalled the software and deleted the files, according to the document.
Kazaa and other file-sharing networks often make a computer's files
available for download by other network users, which allows the RIAA's
investigators to document instances of copyright infringement. The
file-sharing option can be disabled, but many users never realize they
are making their files available.
By including the full list of Paternoster's files in the public record,
the record labels invaded his privacy and are trying to "shame" him
into accepting their demands, his attorneys argue.
"Such actions by the Counter-Defendants are a blatant misuse of their
right to investigate potential copyright infringement and violate
public policy," the countersuit reads.
The attorneys list a host of other common complaints about recording
industry tactics, including targeting dead, disabled and
unknowledgeable people with lawsuits; relying on Internet Protocol
addresses to identify defendants; making "extortionate threats" and
seeking "exorbitant settlement amounts" through the RIAA; and invading
defendants' privacy by pursuing "John Doe" lawsuits and subpoenas
without the individual's knowledge. In my opinion, intellectual
property is a fake concept that helps corporations and hurts small
businesses and poor peopel. Intellectual property is subjective.
Serotek, a small blindness software company was recently sued by a
bigger company called Freedom Scientific. Why? Serotek used the word
"Freedom" in their software products. Rather than getting into a long
drawn out fight with the bully that calls themselves Freedom
Scientific, Serotek has changed the names of all of their software
products. Freedom Scientific sells a Screen Reader called Jaws. Maybe
the producers of the movie Jaws should seu Freedom Scientific because
they are using the word "Jaws." Would that really be that much
different than what Freedom Scientific did to Serotek?

Ron Paul's Sleeper Issue: Industrial Hemp

Most readers know that Ron Paul is in the front lines of the fight
against the drug war.
But a lesser-known aspect of that issue may garner support from an
important segment: farmers.
Last month, The Economist focused on the fight by Iowa farmersto get
the right to grow the cannabis plant to produce industrial hemp, which
can provide cheaper alternatives for paper, plastics, and one of the
healthiest food oils available. On the political side, the article
explains "Ron Paul, a Texas congressman and presidential candidate,
could win over farmers in Iowa because of his pro-hemp lobbying. In
February he introduced a bill in Congress that would allow Americans to
grow it."
Today's New York Times has an article about North Dakota farmerswanting
to get in on the hemp boom:
Though federal authorities ban the growing of hemp, saying it contains
tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive substance better known as THC in
marijuana, six states this year considered legislation to allow farmers
to grow industrial hemp, and Representative Ron Paul, Republican of
Texas, introduced a bill in Washington that would let states allow such

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and
the laws of the United States of America, including the International
Emergency Economic Powers Act, as amended (50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq.)
(IEEPA), the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.)(NEA),
and section 301 of title 3, United States Code,

I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, find
that, due to the unusual and extraordinary threat to the national
security and foreign policy of the United States posed by acts of
violence threatening the peace and stability of Iraq and undermining
efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in
Iraq and to provide humanitarian assistance to the Iraqi people, it
is in the interests of the United States to take additional steps
with respect to the national emergency declared in Executive Order
13303 of May 22, 2003, and expanded in Executive Order 13315 of
August 28, 2003, and relied upon for additional steps taken in
Executive Order 13350 of July 29, 2004, and Executive Order 13364 of
November 29, 2004. I hereby order:

Section 1. (a) Except to the extent provided in section 203(b)(1),
(3), and (4) of IEEPA (50 U.S.C. 1702(b)(1), (3), and (4)), or in
regulations, orders, directives, or licenses that may be issued
pursuant to this order, and notwithstanding any contract entered into
or any license or permit granted prior to the date of this order, all
property and interests in property of the following persons, that are
in the United States, that hereafter come within the United States,
or that are or hereafter come within the possession or control of
United States persons, are blocked and may not be transferred, paid,
exported, withdrawn, or otherwise dealt in: any person determined by
the Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the Secretary of
State and the Secretary of Defense,

(i) to have committed, or to pose a significant risk of committing,
an act or acts of violence that have the purpose or effect of:

(A) threatening the peace or stability of Iraq or the Government of
Iraq; or

(B) undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and
political reform in Iraq or to provide humanitarian assistance to the
Iraqi people;

(ii) to have materially assisted, sponsored, or provided financial,
material, logistical, or technical support for, or goods or services
in support of, such an act or acts of violence or any person whose
property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to this
order; or

(iii) to be owned or controlled by, or to have acted or purported to
act for or on behalf of, directly or indirectly, any person whose
property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to this order.

(b) The prohibitions in subsection (a) of this section include, but
are not limited to, (i) the making of any contribution or provision
of funds, goods, or services by, to, or for the benefit of any person
whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to this
order, and (ii) the

receipt of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services
from any such person.

Sec. 2. (a) Any transaction by a United States person or within the
United States that evades or avoids, has the purpose

of evading or avoiding, or attempts to violate any of the
prohibitions set forth in this order is prohibited.

(b) Any conspiracy formed to violate any of the prohibitions set
forth in this order is prohibited.

Sec. 3. For purposes of this order:

(a) the term "person" means an individual or entity;

(b) the term "entity" means a partnership, association, trust, joint
venture, corporation, group, subgroup, or other organization; and

(c) the term "United States person" means any United States citizen,
permanent resident alien, entity organized under the laws of the
United States or any jurisdiction within the United States (including
foreign branches), or any person in the United States.

Sec. 4. I hereby determine that the making of donations of the type
specified in section 203(b)(2) of IEEPA (50 U.S.C. 1702(b)(2)) by,
to, or for the benefit of, any person whose property and interests in
property are blocked pursuant to this order would seriously impair my
ability to deal with the national emergency declared in Executive
Order 13303 and expanded in Executive Order 13315, and I hereby
prohibit such donations as provided by section 1 of this order.

Sec. 5. For those persons whose property and interests in property
are blocked pursuant to this order who might have a constitutional
presence in the United States, I find that, because of the ability to
transfer funds or other assets

instantaneously, prior notice to such persons of measures to be taken
pursuant to this order would render these measures ineffectual. I
therefore determine that for these measures to be effective in
addressing the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13303
and expanded in Executive Order 13315, there need be no prior notice
of a listing or determination made pursuant to section 1(a) of this
order.

Sec. 6. The Secretary of the Treasury, in consultation with the
Secretary of State and the Secretary of Defense, is hereby authorized
to take such actions, including the promulgation of rules and
regulations, and to employ all powers granted to the President by
IEEPA as may be necessary to carry out the purposes of this order.
The Secretary of the Treasury may redelegate any of these functions
to other officers and agencies of the United States Government,
consistent with applicable law. All agencies of the United States
Government are hereby directed to take all appropriate measures
within their authority to carry out the provisions of this order and,
where appropriate, to advise the Secretary of the Treasury in a
timely manner of the measures taken.

Sec. 7. Nothing in this order is intended to affect the continued
effectiveness of any rules, regulations, orders, licenses, or other
forms of administrative action issued, taken, or continued in effect
heretofore or hereafter under 31 C.F.R. chapter V, except as
expressly terminated, modified, or suspended by or pursuant to this
order.

Sec. 8. This order is not intended to, and does not, create any
right, benefit, or privilege, substantive or procedural, enforceable
at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its

The most radical congressman in America is a Republican from Texas.
And he's running for president.
Whipping westward across Manhattan in a limousine sent by Comedy
Central's "Daily Show," Ron Paul, the 10-term Texas congressman and
long-shot Republican presidential candidate, is being briefed. Paul
has only the most tenuous familiarity with Comedy Central. He has
never heard of "The Daily Show." His press secretary, Jesse Benton, is
trying to explain who its host, Jon Stewart, is. "He's an affable
gentleman," Benton says, "and he's very smart. What I'm getting from
the pre-interview is, he's sympathetic."

Paul nods.

"GQ wants to profile you on Thursday," Benton continues. "I think it's
worth doing."

"GTU?" the candidate replies.

"GQ. It's a men's magazine."

"Don't know much about that," Paul says.

Thin to the point of gauntness, polite to the point of daintiness, Ron
Paul is a 71-year-old great-grandfather, a small-town doctor, a
self-educated policy intellectual and a formidable stander on
constitutional principle. In normal times, Paul might be — indeed, has
been — the kind of person who is summoned onto cable television around
April 15 to ventilate about whether the federal income tax violates
the Constitution. But Paul has in recent weeks become a sensation in
magazines he doesn't read, on Web sites he has never visited and on
television shows he has never watched.

Alone among Republican candidates for the presidency, Paul has always
opposed the Iraq war. He blames "a dozen or two neocons who got
control of our foreign policy," chief among them Vice President Dick
Cheney and the former Bush advisers Paul Wolfowitz and Richard Perle,
for the debacle. On the assumption that a bad situation could get
worse if the war spreads into Iran, he has a simple plan. It is: "Just
leave." During a May debate in South Carolina, he suggested the 9/11
attacks could be attributed to United States policy. "Have you ever
read about the reasons they attacked us?" he asked, referring to one
of Osama bin Laden's communiqués. "They attack us because we've been
over there. We've been bombing Iraq for 10 years." Rudolph Giuliani
reacted by demanding a retraction, drawing gales of applause from the
audience. But the incident helped Paul too. Overnight, he became the
country's most conspicuous antiwar Republican.

Paul's opposition to the war in Iraq did not come out of nowhere. He
was against the first gulf war, the war in Kosovo and the Iraq
Liberation Act of 1998, which he called a "declaration of virtual
war." Although he voted after Sept. 11 to approve the use of force in
Afghanistan and spend $40 billion in emergency appropriations, he has
sounded less thrilled with those votes as time has passed. "I voted
for the authority and the money," he now says. "I thought it was misused."

There is something homespun about Paul, reminiscent of "Mr. Smith Goes
to Washington." He communicates with his constituents through birthday
cards, August barbecues and the cookbooks his wife puts together every
election season, which mix photos of grandchildren, Gospel passages
and neighbors' recipes for Velveeta cheese fudge and Cherry Coke
salad. He is listed in the phone book, and his constituents call him
at home. But there is also something cosmopolitan and radical about
him; his speeches can bring to mind the World Social Forum or the
French international-affairs periodical Le Monde Diplomatique. Paul is
surely the only congressman who would cite the assertion of the
left-leaning Chennai-based daily The Hindu that "the world is being
asked today, in reality, to side with the U.S. as it seeks to
strengthen its economic hegemony." The word "empire" crops up a lot in
his speeches.

This side of Paul has made him the candidate of many people, on both
the right and the left, who hope that something more consequential
than a mere change of party will come out of the 2008 elections. He is
particularly popular among the young and the wired. Except for Barack
Obama, he is the most-viewed candidate on YouTube. He is the most
"friended" Republican on MySpace.com. Paul understands that his
chances of winning the presidency are infinitesimally slim. He is
simultaneously planning his next Congressional race. But in Paul's
idea of politics, spreading a message has always been just as
important as seizing office. "Politicians don't amount to much," he
says, "but ideas do." Although he is still in the low single digits in
polls, he says he has raised $2.4 million in the second quarter,
enough to broaden the four-state campaign he originally planned into a
national one.

Paul represents a different Republican Party from the one that Iraq,
deficits and corruption have soured the country on. In late June,
despite a life of antitax agitation and churchgoing, he was excluded
from a Republican forum sponsored by Iowa antitax and Christian
groups. His school of Republicanism, which had its last serious
national airing in the Goldwater campaign of 1964, stands for a
certain idea of the Constitution — the idea that much of the power
asserted by modern presidents has been usurped from Congress, and that
much of the power asserted by Congress has been usurped from the
states. Though Paul acknowledges flaws in both the Constitution (it
included slavery) and the Bill of Rights (it doesn't go far enough),
he still thinks a comprehensive array of positions can be drawn from
them: Against gun control. For the sovereignty of states. And against
foreign-policy adventures. Paul was the Libertarian Party's
presidential candidate in 1988. But his is a less exuberant
libertarianism than you find, say, in the pages of Reason magazine.

Over the years, this vision has won most favor from those convinced
the country is going to hell in a handbasket. The attention Paul has
captured tells us a lot about the prevalence of such pessimism today,
about the instability of partisan allegiances and about the
seldom-avowed common ground between the hard right and the hard left.
His message draws on the noblest traditions of American decency and
patriotism; it also draws on what the historian Richard Hofstadter
called the paranoid style in American politics.

Financial Armageddon

Paul grew up in the western Pennsylvania town of Green Tree. His
father, the son of a German immigrant, ran a small dairy company.
Sports were big around there — one of the customers on the milk route
Paul worked as a teenager was the retired baseball Hall of Famer Honus
Wagner — and Paul was a terrific athlete, winning a state track meet
in the 220 and excelling at football and baseball. But knee injuries
had ended his sports career by the time he went off to Gettysburg
College in 1953. After medical school at Duke, Paul joined the Air
Force, where he served as a flight surgeon, tending to the ear, nose
and throat ailments of pilots, and traveling to Iran, Ethiopia and
elsewhere. "I recall doing a lot of physicals on Army warrant officers
who wanted to become helicopter pilots and go to Vietnam," he told me.
"They were gung-ho. I've often thought about how many of those people
never came back."

Paul is given to mulling things over morally. His family was pious and
Lutheran; two of his brothers became ministers. Paul's five children
were baptized in the Episcopal church, but he now attends a Baptist
one. He doesn't travel alone with women and once dressed down an aide
for using the expression "red-light district" in front of a female
colleague. As a young man, though, he did not protest the Vietnam War,
which he now calls "totally unnecessary" and "illegal." Much later,
after the United States invaded Iraq in 2003, he began reading St.
Augustine. "I was annoyed by the evangelicals' being so supportive of
pre-emptive war, which seems to contradict everything that I was
taught as a Christian," he recalls. "The religion is based on somebody
who's referred to as the Prince of Peace."

In 1968, Paul settled in southern Texas, where he had been stationed.
He recalls that he was for a while the only obstetrician — "a very
delightful part of medicine," he says — in Brazoria County. He was
already immersed in reading the economics books that would change his
life. Americans know the "Austrian school," if at all, from the work
of Friedrich Hayek and Ludwig von Mises, two economists who fled the
Nazis in the 1930s and whose free-market doctrines helped inspire the
conservative movement in the 1950s. The laws of economics don't admit
exceptions, say the Austrians. You cannot fake out markets, no matter
how surreptitiously you expand the money supply. Spend more than you
earn, and you are on the road to inflation and tyranny.

Such views are not always Republican orthodoxy. Paul is a harsh critic
of the Federal Reserve, both for its policies and its
unaccountability. "We first bonded," recalls Barney Frank, the
Massachusetts Democrat, "because we were both conspicuous
nonworshipers at the Temple of the Fed and of the High Priest
Greenspan." In recent weeks, Paul's airport reading has been a book
called "Financial Armageddon." He is obsessed with sound money, which
he considers — along with the related phenomena of credit excess,
bubbles and uncollateralized assets of all kinds — a "sleeper issue."
The United States ought to link its currency to gold or silver again,
Paul says. He puts his money where his mouth is. According to Federal
Election Commission documents, most of his investments are in gold and
silver and are worth between $1.5 and $3.5 million. It's a modest sum
by the standards of major presidential candidates but impressive for
someone who put five children through college on a doctor's (and later
a congressman's) earnings.

For Paul, everything comes back to money, including Iraq. "No matter
how much you love the empire," he says, "it's unaffordable." Wars are
expensive, and there has been a tendency throughout history to pay for
them by borrowing. A day of reckoning always comes, says Paul, and one
will come for us. Speaking this spring before the libertarian Future
of Freedom Foundation in Reston, Va., he warned of a dollar crisis.
"That's usually the way empires end," he said. "It wasn't us forcing
the Soviets to build missiles that brought them down. It was the fact
that socialism doesn't work. Our system doesn't work much better."

Under the banner of "Freedom, Honesty and Sound Money," Paul ran for
Congress in 1974. He lost — but took the seat in a special election in
April 1976. He lost again in November of that year, then won in 1978.
On two big issues, he stood on principle and was vindicated: He was
one of very few Republicans in Congress to back Ronald Reagan against
Gerald Ford for the 1976 Republican nomination. He was also one of the
representatives who warned against the rewriting of banking rules that
laid the groundwork for the savings-and-loan collapse of the 1980s.
Paul served three terms before losing to Phil Gramm in the Republican
primary for Senate in 1984. Tom DeLay took over his seat.

Paul would not come back to Washington for another dozen years. But in
the time he could spare from delivering babies in Brazoria County, he
remained a mighty presence in the out-of-the-limelight world of those
old-line libertarians who had never made their peace with the steady
growth of federal power in the 20th century. Paul got the Libertarian
Party nomination for president in 1988, defeating the Indian activist
Russell Means in a tough race. He finished third behind Bush and
Dukakis, winning nearly half a million votes. He tended his own
Foundation for Rational Economics and Education (FREE) and kept up his
contacts with other market-oriented organizations. What resulted was a
network of true believers who would be his political base in one of
the stranger Congressional elections of modern times.

A Lone Wolf

In the first days of 1995, just weeks after the Republican landslide,
Paul traveled to Washington and, through DeLay, made contact with the
Texas Republican delegation. He told them he could beat the Democratic
incumbent Greg Laughlin in the reconfigured Gulf Coast district that
now included his home. Republicans had their own ideas. In June 1995,
Laughlin announced he would run in the next election as a Republican.
Laughlin says he had discussed switching parties with Newt Gingrich,
the next speaker, before the Republicans even took power. Paul
suspects to this day that the Republicans wooed Laughlin to head off
his candidacy. Whatever happened, it didn't work. Paul challenged
Laughlin in the primary.

"At first, we kind of blew him off," recalls the longtime Texas
political consultant Royal Masset. " `Oh, there's Ron Paul!' But very
quickly, we realized he was getting far more money than anybody." Much
of it came from out of state, from the free-market network Paul built
up while far from Congress. His candidacy was a problem not just for
Laughlin. It also threatened to halt the stream of prominent Democrats
then switching parties — for what sane incumbent would switch if he
couldn't be assured the Republican nomination? The result was a
heavily funded effort by the National Republican Congressional
Committee to defeat Paul in the primary. The National Rifle
Association made an independent expenditure against him. Former
President George H.W. Bush, Gov. George W. Bush and both Republican
senators endorsed Laughlin. Paul had only two prominent backers: the
tax activist Steve Forbes and the pitcher Nolan Ryan, Paul's
constituent and old friend, who cut a number of ads for him. They were
enough. Paul edged Laughlin in a runoff and won an equally narrow
general election.

Republican opposition may not have made Paul distrust the party, but
beating its network with his own homemade one revealed that he didn't
necessarily need the party either. Paul looks back on that race and
sees something in common with his quixotic bid for the presidency. "I
always think that if I do things like that and get clobbered, I can
excuse myself," he says.

Anyone who is elected to Congress three times as a nonincumbent, as
Paul has been, is a politician of prodigious gifts. Especially since
Paul has real vulnerabilities in his district. For Eric Dondero, who
plans to challenge him in the Republican Congressional primary next
fall, foreign policy is Paul's central failing. Dondero, who is 44,
was Paul's aide and sometime spokesman for more than a decade.
According to Dondero, "When 9/11 happened, he just completely changed.
One of the first things he said was not how awful the tragedy was . .
. it was, `Now we're gonna get big government.' "

Dondero claims that Paul's vote to authorize force in Afghanistan was
made only after warnings from a longtime staffer that voting otherwise
would cost him Victoria, a pivotal city in his district. ("Completely
false," Paul says.) One day just after the Iraq invasion, when Dondero
was driving Paul around the district, the two had words. "He said he
did not want to have someone on staff who did not support him 100
percent on foreign policy," Dondero recalls. Paul says Dondero's
outspoken enthusiasm for the military's "shock and awe" strategy made
him an awkward spokesman for an antiwar congressman. The two parted on
bad terms.

A larger vulnerability may be that voters want more pork-barrel
spending than Paul is willing to countenance. In a rice-growing,
cattle-ranching district, Paul consistently votes against farm
subsidies. In the very district where, on the night of Sept. 8, 1900,
a storm destroyed the city of Galveston, leaving 6,000 dead, and where
repairs from Hurricane Rita and refugees from Hurricane Katrina
continue to exact a toll, he votes against FEMA and flood aid. In a
district that is home to many employees of the Johnson Space Center,
he votes against financing NASA.

The Victoria Advocate, an influential newspaper in the district, has
generally opposed Paul for re-election, on the grounds that a "lone
wolf" cannot get the highway and homeland-security financing the
district needs. So how does he get re-elected? Tim Delaney, the
paper's editorial-page editor, says: "Ron Paul is a very charismatic
person. He has charm. He does not alter his position ever. His ideals
are high. If a little old man calls up from the farm and says, `I need
a wheelchair,' he'll get the damn wheelchair for him."

Paul may have refused on principle to accept Medicare when he
practiced medicine. He may return a portion of his Congressional
office budget every year. But his staff has the reputation of fighting
doggedly to collect Social Security checks, passports, military
decorations, immigrant-visa extensions and any emolument to which
constituents are entitled by law. According to Jackie Gloor, who runs
Paul's Victoria office: "So many times, people say to us, `We don't
like his vote.' But they trust his heart."

In Congress, Paul is generally admired for his fidelity to principle
and lack of ego. "He is one of the easiest people in Congress to work
with, because he bases his positions on the merits of issues," says
Barney Frank, who has worked with Paul on efforts to ease the
regulation of gambling and medical marijuana. "He is independent but
not ornery." Paul has made a habit of objecting to things that no one
else objects to. In October 2001, he was one of three House
Republicans to vote against the USA Patriot Act. He was the sole House
member of either party to vote against the Financial Antiterrorism Act
(final tally: 412-1). In 1999, he was the only naysayer in a 424-1
vote in favor of casting a medal to honor Rosa Parks. Nothing against
Rosa Parks: Paul voted against similar medals for Ronald Reagan and
Pope John Paul II. He routinely opposes resolutions that presume to
advise foreign governments how to run their affairs: He has refused to
condemn Robert Mugabe's violence against Zimbabwean citizens (421-1),
to call on Vietnam to release political prisoners (425-1) or to ask
the League of Arab States to help stop the killing in Darfur (425-1).

Every Thursday, Paul is the host of a luncheon for a circle of
conservative Republicans that he calls the Liberty Caucus. It has
become the epicenter of antiwar Republicanism in Washington. One
stalwart member is Walter Jones, the North Carolina Republican who
during the debate over Iraq suggested renaming French fries "freedom
fries" in the House dining room, but who has passed the years since in
vocal opposition to the war. Another is John (Jimmy) Duncan of
Tennessee, the only Republican besides Paul who voted against the war
and remains in the House. Other regulars include Virgil Goode of
Virginia, Roscoe Bartlett of Maryland and Scott Garrett of New Jersey.
Zach Wamp of Tennessee and Jeff Flake, the Arizonan scourge of
pork-barrel spending, visit occasionally. Not all are antiwar, but
many of the speakers Paul invites are: the former C.I.A. analyst
Michael Scheuer, the intelligence-world journalist James Bamford and
such disillusioned United States Army officers as William Odom,
Gregory Newbold and Lawrence Wilkerson (Colin Powell's former chief of
staff), among others.

In today's Washington, Paul's combination of radical libertarianism
and conservatism is unusual. Sometimes the first impulse predominates.
He was the only Texas Republican to vote against last year's Federal
Marriage Amendment, meant to stymie gay marriage. He detests the
federal war on drugs; the LSD guru Timothy Leary held a fundraiser for
him in 1988. Sometimes he is more conservative. He opposed the recent
immigration bill on the grounds that it constituted amnesty. At a
breakfast for conservative journalists in the offices of Americans for
Tax Reform this May, he spoke resentfully of being required to treat
penurious immigrants in emergency rooms — "patients who were more
likely to sue you than anybody else," having children "who became
automatic citizens the next day." (Paul champions a constitutional
amendment to end birthright citizenship.) While he backs free trade in
theory, he opposes many of the institutions and arrangements — from
the World Trade Organization to Nafta — that promote it in practice.

Paul also opposes abortion, which he believes should be addressed at
the state level, not the national one. He remembers seeing a late
abortion performed during his residency, years before Roe v. Wade, and
he maintains it left an impression on him. "It was pretty dramatic for
me," he says, "to see a two-and-a-half-pound baby taken out crying and
breathing and put in a bucket."

The Owl-God Moloch

Paul's message is not new. You could have heard it in 1964 or 1975 or
1991 at the conclaves of those conservatives who were considered
outside the mainstream of the Republican Party. Back then, most
Republicans appeared reconciled to a strong federal government, if
only to do the expensive job of defending the country against
Communism. But when the Berlin Wall fell, the dormant institutions and
ideologies of pre-cold-war conservatism began to stir. In his 1992 and
1996 campaigns, Pat Buchanan was the first politician to express and
exploit this change, breathing life into the motto "America First" (if
not the organization of that name, which opposed entry into World War II).

Like Buchanan, Paul draws on forgotten traditions. His top aides are
unimpeachably Republican but stand at a distance from the party as it
has evolved over the decades. His chief of staff, Tom Lizardo, worked
for Pat Robertson and Bill Miller Jr. (the son of Barry Goldwater's
vice-presidential nominee). His national campaign organizer, Lew
Moore, worked for the late congressman Jack Metcalf of Washington
State, another Goldwaterite. At the grass roots, Paul's New Hampshire
primary campaign stresses gun rights and relies on anti-abortion and
tax activists from the organizations of Buchanan and the state's
former maverick senator, Bob Smith.

Paul admires Robert Taft, the isolationist Ohio senator known during
the Truman administration as Mr. Republican, who tried to rally
Republicans against United States participation in NATO. Taft lost the
Republican nomination in 1952 to Dwight Eisenhower and died the
following year. "Now, of course," Paul says, "I quote Eisenhower when
he talks about the military-industrial complex. But I quote Taft when
he suits my purposes too." Particularly on NATO, from which Paul, too,
would like to withdraw.

The question is whether the old ideologies being resurrected are
neglected wisdom or discredited nonsense. In the 1996 general
election, Paul's Democratic opponent Lefty Morris held a press
conference to air several shocking quotes from a newsletter that Paul
published during his decade away from Washington. Passages described
the black male population of Washington as "semi-criminal or entirely
criminal" and stated that "by far the most powerful lobby in
Washington of the bad sort is the Israeli government." Morris noted
that a Canadian neo-Nazi Web site had listed Paul's newsletter as a
laudably "racialist" publication.

Paul survived these revelations. He later explained that he had not
written the passages himself — quite believably, since the style
diverges widely from his own. But his response to the accusations was
not transparent. When Morris called on him to release the rest of his
newsletters, he would not. He remains touchy about it. "Even the fact
that you're asking this question infers, `Oh, you're an anti-Semite,'
" he told me in June. Actually, it doesn't. Paul was in Congress when
Israel bombed Iraq's Osirak nuclear plant in 1981 and — unlike the
United Nations and the Reagan administration — defended its right to
do so. He says Saudi Arabia has an influence on Washington equal to
Israel's. His votes against support for Israel follow quite naturally
from his opposition to all foreign aid. There is no sign that they
reflect any special animus against the Jewish state.

What is interesting is Paul's idea that the identity of the person who
did write those lines is "of no importance." Paul never deals in
disavowals or renunciations or distancings, as other politicians do.
In his office one afternoon in June, I asked about his connections to
the John Birch Society. "Oh, my goodness, the John Birch Society!" he
said in mock horror. "Is that bad? I have a lot of friends in the John
Birch Society. They're generally well educated, and they understand
the Constitution. I don't know how many positions they would have that
I don't agree with. Because they're real strict constitutionalists,
they don't like the war, they're hard-money people. . . . "

Paul's ideological easygoingness is like a black hole that attracts
the whole universe of individuals and groups who don't recognize
themselves in the politics they see on TV. To hang around with his
impressively large crowd of supporters before and after the CNN debate
in Manchester, N.H., in June, was to be showered with privately
printed newsletters full of exclamation points and capital letters,
scribbled-down U.R.L.'s for Web sites about the Free State Project,
which aims to turn New Hampshire into a libertarian enclave, and
copies of the cult DVD "America: Freedom to Fascism."

Victor Carey, a 45-year-old, muscular, mustachioed self-described
"patriot" who wears a black baseball cap with a skull and crossbones
on it, drove up from Sykesville, Md., to show his support for Paul. He
laid out some of his concerns. "The people who own the Federal Reserve
own the oil companies, they own the mass media, they own the
International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, they're part of the
Bilderbergers, and unfortunately their spiritual practices are very
wicked and diabolical as well," Carey said. "They go to a place out in
California known as the Bohemian Grove, and there's been footage
obtained by infiltration of what their practices are. And they do mock
human sacrifices to an owl-god called Moloch. This is true. Go
research it yourself."

Two grandmothers from North Carolina who painted a Winnebago red,
white and blue were traveling around the country, stumping for Ron
Paul, defending the Constitution and warning about the new "North
American Union." Asked whether this is something that would arise out
of Nafta, Betty Smith of Chapel Hill, N.C., replied: "It's already
arisen. They're building the highway. Guess what! The Spanish company
building the highway — they're gonna get the tolls. Giuliani's law
firm represents that Spanish company. Giuliani's been anointed a
knight by the Queen. Guess what! Read the Constitution. That's not
allowed!"

Paul is not a conspiracy theorist, but he has a tendency to talk in
that idiom. In a floor speech shortly after the toppling of the
Taliban in Afghanistan, he mentioned Unocal's desire to tap the
region's energy and concluded, "We should not be surprised now that
many contend that the plan for the U.N. to `nation-build' in
Afghanistan is a logical and important consequence of this desire."
But when push comes to shove, Paul is not among the "many" who
"contend" this. "I think oil and gas is part of it," he explains. "But
it's not the issue. If that were the only issue, it wouldn't have
happened. The main reason was to get the Taliban out."

Last winter at a meet-the-candidate house party in New Hampshire,
students representing a group called Student Scholars for 9/11 Truth
asked Paul whether he believed the official investigation into the
Sept. 11 attacks was credible. "I never automatically trust anything
the government does when they do an investigation," Paul replied,
"because too often I think there's an area that the government covered
up, whether it's the Kennedy assassination or whatever." The exchange
was videotaped and ricocheted around the Internet for a while. But
Paul's patience with the "Truthers," as they call themselves, does not
make him one himself. "Even at the time it happened, I believe the
information was fairly clear that Al Qaeda was involved," he told me.

"Every Wacko Fringe Group In the Country"

One evening in mid-June, 86 members of a newly formed Ron Paul Meetup
group gathered in a room in the Pasadena convention center. It was a
varied crowd, preoccupied by the war, including many disaffected
Democrats. Via video link from Virginia, Paul's campaign chairman,
Kent Snyder, spoke to the group "of a coming-together of the old guard
and the new." Then Connie Ruffley, co-chairwoman of United Republicans
of California (UROC), addressed the crowd. UROC was founded during the
1964 presidential campaign to fight off challenges to Goldwater from
Rockefeller Republicanism. Since then it has lain dormant but not dead
— waiting, like so many other old right-wing groups, for someone or
something to kiss it back to life. UROC endorsed Paul at its spring
convention.

That night, Ruffley spoke about her past with the John Birch Society
and asked how many in the room were members (quite a few, as it turned
out). She referred to the California senator Dianne Feinstein as
"Fine-Swine," and got quickly to Israel, raising the Israeli attack on
the American Naval signals ship Liberty during the Six-Day War. Some
people were pleased. Others walked out. Others sent angry e-mails that
night. Several said they would not return. The head of the Pasadena
Meetup group, Bill Dumas, sent a desperate letter to Paul headquarters
asking for guidance:

"We're in a difficult position of working on a campaign that draws
supporters from laterally opposing points of view, and we have the
added bonus of attracting every wacko fringe group in the country. And
in a Ron Paul Meetup many people will consider each other `wackos' for
their beliefs whether that is simply because they're liberal,
conspiracy theorists, neo-Nazis, evangelical Christian, etc. . . . We
absolutely must focus on Ron's message only and put aside all other
agendas, which anyone can save for the next `Star Trek' convention or
whatever."

But what is "Ron's message"? Whatever the campaign purports to be
about, the main thing it has done thus far is to serve as a
clearinghouse for voters who feel unrepresented by mainstream
Republicans and Democrats. The antigovernment activists of the right
and the antiwar activists of the left have many differences, maybe
irreconcilable ones. But they have a lot of common beliefs too, and
their numbers — and anger — are of a considerable magnitude. Ron Paul
will not be the next president of the United States. But his candidacy
gives us a good hint about the country the next president is going to
have to knit back together.

letter to my representatives about Iran

It has come to my attention that George Bush has sent military forces
to Iran. War in Iran would not be a good idea. The war in Iraq is not
going well, so America shouldn't spread it's military even more by
going to war with another country. Congress has the authority to
declare war, not the president. If George Bush launches an
unauthorized war against Iran, impeechment procedings should begin.

War with Iran may be imminent.

There are disturbing signs that we may be at war with Iran in a matter
of weeks. The Guardian newspaper has reported that the debate in the
White House has settled in favor of an attack before Bush leaves
office. That attack could occur in August when Congress is out of town.
There are a number of lines of evidence pointing to this conclusion. We
don't have time to cover all of them in this message because we all
need to get busy sending messages to Congress. So we will just mention
one item -- a new Navy task force has been sent to the Persian Gulf.
Never before has so much of the U.S. Navy been stationed in the Persian Gulf.
Why have we stationed so much fire power in the Gulf at this precise
time? We think there is a very real possibility that President Bush is
about to attack Iran. This would be a disaster. Please ask Congress to
take immediate action to prevent this before they recess.

Join Ron Paul for a Rally in South Carolina!

Ron Paul will be going to Greenville, SC SC this Saturday, July 21st!
He will be featured at two events, a GOP sponsored luncheon and at a
regional campaign rally!
The first event will be a Ron Paul Luncheon hosted by the Spartanburg
Republican Party. Tickets are $25 (collected at the door), with all
proceeds going to the Spartanburg GOP. Dr. Paul needs supporters in the
room for the intensive question and answer session planned.
The luncheon will be at noon, held at the Summit Pointe Meetings &
Events Center, 805 Spartan Blvd, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
At 3pm we will "Celebrate Life and Liberty" at a free rally for all Ron

John McCain has lost more staff. According to the Washington post
(http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/16/AR2007071600625.html),
McCain's communications director has resigned. He has also lost other
press staff. It seems that his campaign is about over. To this I say
good riddens. I don't want a war monger like him running America.
Hopefully Ron Paul will get more attention when McCain drops out.

Yes you heard me right. Now that all Q2 financial reports from both sides are publicized we can see who is getting money from where.

It has been no surprise that the contributions from the US Navy, US Army, US Air Force, and US Veterans tends to favor the Republican Party but what might be a little surprising is that Congressman Ron Paul leads the pack overall with more contributions than even Senator John McCain. Here are the numbers (in dollars) as compiled by eaglescout over at TheSpinFactor.com:

I would have jumped to the conclusion that our soldiers are ticked off that they have to be fighting an unecessary war against an invisible enemy in 120+ degree weather BUT that would certainly not explain why many veterans would be supporting Ron Paul. This sentiment probably stems from Congressman (and US Air Force veteran) Paul's honesty, as well as his ability to both use and communicate solid reasoning. Soldiers must not like how they are being used for the whims of corrupt politicians and I'm sure would like to get back to the days when they were used in the honorable role of protecting freedom... something Dr. No has consistently done from his seat in Congress and would undoubtedly do from his seat in the Oval Office.
